Makarapa harvesting is a division of Makarapa Holding and specializes in harvesting timber in a number of different ways. Our current portfolio includes clear felling and thinning operations. We do both flat area and steep area harvesting using manual and mechanical harvesting techniques. We sell all our harvested timber to different mills within the Lowveld area
Thinnings is the process of removing trees between canopy closure and the final Harvests. In the thinning process; smaller, poorer quality and weaker trees are removed to concentrate growth on better remaining trees. We currently specialize in flat area thinning operations using manual felling and tractor extraction.
Clear felling is another component of Harvesting. Clear felling is carried out at the end of the tree rotation and involves removing the entire crop. We perform both flat area and steep area clear felling using manual felling and mechanical extraction. Our fleet of extraction machines include Shovel Yarders and Cable Skidder.
Makarapa harvesting buys standing timber from established companies and private farmers. We then harvest the timber and prepare it for different markets. We sell the different log products as specified by the market at very competitive rates.
